Our DNA as humans hasn’t changed in 10,000 years and yet many conditions are supposedly linked to unfortunate genetic inheritance. What has changed in the past 70 years or so, is the environment. Things like pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals in the foods, water and air we breath. This group of environmental factors is called epigenetics. Genetics is like loading a gun, epigenetics is like pulling the trigger.
The epigenetics or light switches for our genes can turn on and off genes that can cause expression of disease. These light switches or triggers can be so many things from foods, additives, chemicals in our water, cosmetics we put on our bodies, and the list goes on and on. Now that can make one’s head spin! But, the choices we have are many. We decide what kinds of food we eat, the items we drink and the company we keep.
The Wahls protocol helped me to thwart the downward spiral of my health, feed and nourish my body in order for it to do the many jobs it was meant to do. This protocol was designed to eliminate potential trigger foods that maybe sending mixed signals to your body, at the same time incorporating foods that nourish and heal.
